Zarcrest, is an anagram of Zara’s names, Zara Cresswell the first affix applied for was Zarwell, but was turned down and Zarcrest was eventually granted in 1968.
The ZARCREST kennel originates back to the purchase of a whippet in 1966 she was known as Highland Lassie, a heavy marked red brindle born in the Shrewsbury area.
She was quickly followed by two ‘Dondelayo’ girls from Anne Knight, and they were followed by the ‘Lowglen’s’ brother and sister team.
1988 saw the introduction of the Miniature Long Haired Dachshund, bred by Denise Hartley, ‘Dachartley Aquarius At Zarcrest’, she was the only red in a litter of six girls, this was a first litter for their sire, who later became Ch Kizzhar Kavalcade.
The long-haired’s and American Cockers came along in the 1990’s with the longs reappearing again some ten years later, but the American Cockers did not make their reappearance in the kennel until 2013.
This is a hobby kennel not a commercial one! and for this reason all our dogs are bred and reared to the highest possible standards living in our home as our own family pets.
Our successes in competition speak for themselves… and the rest is history of which we are most proud.
